(5) M.A Course (fifth year)
501- - Visuddhimagga’ : Vol. l-pp. 1-370:- (i) Translation of the text; (ii) Explanation of Dhamma contained therein.
502- - ‘ History’:- History of Buddhism and Pāli literature of Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
503- - ‘ Philosophy’:- (i) The four Vedas, Brāhmanas, Aranyakas, Upanishads and Vedantas; (ii) The Vedic civilization and religious thought; (iii) The Philosophical thoughts of the different schools of religion flourished in India.
504- - ‘ Buddhist (Hybrid) Sanskrit’ :- language and grammar; (i) selections from the Mahāyāna Buddhist texts- “ Mahāvastu, Lalita, vistara,; Mahāparinirvāna sūtra; Edifying Stanzas from the Udāna varga; (ii) some eminent Mahāyāna Buddhist scholars and their works; (iii) Comparative study of BHS texts with the Pāli versions; (iv) Philology- comparative study of the BHS words with Pāli and Classical Sanskrit.
505- - Buddhism I ‘ (I) Buddha’s Abhidhamma (Abhidhammattha sangaha) chapters on “ Citta, Cetasika, Pakinnaka”- to be studied in detail; (i) Selected Dhammapada verses – 90 verses (1-90 ) to be learnt by heart and translated into English.
506- - ‘ Buddhism II:’ (i) Buddha’s Abhidhamma (Abhidhammattha saṅgaha) chapters on “ Vīthi, Vīthimutta, Rūpa”- to be studied in detail; () Selected Dhammapada verses – 90 verses (91-180 ) to be learnt by heart and translated into English.
(6) M.A Course (sixth year)
601- - Visuddhimagga’ Vol. II-pp. 1-353- (i) Translation of the text; and (ii) explanation of Dhamma contained therin.
602- - History:- History of Buddhism and Pāli Literature of Burma.
603- - ‘ Philosophy’ :- Doctrines of Mahāyāna Buddhism, Brahamanism (Hinduism), Christian, Islam (Muslim).
604- - ‘ Asoka’s Edicts’:- (i) King Asoka’s life and missionary activities; () Language of Asoka’s Edicts; (ii) Philology- Comparative study of the words used in the Edicts with Pāli and Sanskrit.
605 ‘ Buddhsim I’ :- (i) (I) Buddha’s Abhidhamma (Abhidhammattha saṅgaha) chapters on ) “Samuccaya, Paticcasamuppāda and Paccaya (Hetu, Arammana, Adhipati, Anantara, and Samanantara- paccayas or Conditions ”- to be studied in detail; (i) the Significance of the Buddha’s First Sermon- “Wheel of Dhamma” (Dhammacakka).
606- - ‘ Buddhism II‘ (i) Buddha’s Abhidhamma- the remaining 19 Paccaya (or conditions) to be studied in detail. (ii) The significance of Anatta (Non-soul) doctrine.
(7) M.A Course (Seventh year)
701- - ‘ Buddhist Meditation’ (i) Forty subjects of Meditation; (ii) Samatha (Calm or Tranquility) Meditation; (iii) Vipassanā (Insight) Meditation-7 Visuddhi or Purifications, and 10 Insight-knowledges, fourfold Ariyas, twofold attainments ( Samāpatti).
702 ‘Missionary activities’- done by Christian missions, Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists.
703- - “Hindī“:- Basic grammar and Conversation.
704- - ‘ Chinese ‘ Basic grammar and Conversation.
704- - ‘ Pātimokkha’ rules for monks.
706- - “ Rearch Methodology’ :- The procedure and method in carring out a research or writing a thesis or dissertation.
